Our murder mystery business started out because we were looking for a different kind of fundraiser than the ones we had been doing all our lives; chocolate sales, sausage sizzles and quiz nights to name a few.
So we decided to attempt to write a murder mystery and charge Sam's parents friends to attend in order to fundraise for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer NZ (through the Firefighter Skytower Stair Climb).
Luckliy, it was a success and also great fun, so we wrote a new one every year and held an annual fundraising event for 6 years before eventually deciding that we wanted to turn our murder mysteries into a business.
Thinking of fundraising ideas can be really hard, so we thought we would dedicate this blog to some ideas that might be fun for groups to try. Here are some more fundraising ideas that sound like a lot of fun to us:
Murder Mystery Night: Obviously we think our murder mysteries are perfect for fundraisers, otherwise we wouldn't be writing this blog! We suggest that hosts charge each participant whatever they are comfortable (can charge more if providing food) and then asking for gold coin donations to participate in small breakout games throughout the evening.
Bingo Night: Host a bingo night and charge participants for each card they purchase. You can also sell snacks or drinks to raise additional funds.
Game Night: Host a game night where participants can play various board games and card games. Charge an entry fee for each participant and provide snacks or drinks.
Karaoke Night: Host a karaoke night where participants can sing and perform. Charge an entry fee for each participant and provide prizes for the best performances.
Talent Show: Host a talent show where participants can showcase their talents. Charge an entry fee for each participant and provide prizes for the best performances.
Cooking Competition: Host a cooking competition where participants can showcase their cooking skills. Charge an entry fee for each participant and provide prizes for the winners.
Art Competition: Host an art competition where participants can showcase their artistic talents. Charge an entry fee for each participant and provide prizes for the winners.
Wine Tasting Event: Host a wine tasting event and charge an entry fee for each participant. You can also sell wine and other beverages to raise additional funds.
Beer Tasting Event: Host a beer tasting event and charge an entry fee for each participant. You can also sell beer and other beverages to raise additional funds.
Fashion Show: Host a fashion show where local designers can showcase their creations. Charge an entry fee for each participant and provide prizes for the best designs.
We hope that this list of ideas inspires you to try something a bit different, and if you are indeed fundraising for something, we wish you all the very best!
